About Saguaro Jane Food Bank

Our Story

Saguaro Jane’s began as a Victory Garden during World War II in the 1940s by a small group of women, and has remained consistently in operation ever since. As part of the war effort, the federal government encouraged patriotic Americans to plant gardens to supply their own fruits and vegetables. Like many other victory gardens, Saguaro Jane’s began as an effort to show solidarity with the surrounding community, establishing their ongoing mission that no neighbor should go hungry. Over 70 years since the start of Saguaro Jane’s, our team of volunteers continues to provide food and other essential items to individuals and families from Wittmann, Wickenburg, Aguila, Circle City, Morristown, and a few select Surprise zip codes.

How We Operate

Saguaro Jane’s, also known as the Wittmann Food Bank, is located on the South side of U.S. Route 60, and is proud to be in partnership with St. Mary’s Food Bank. Our partnership allows us to uniquely provide weekly food boxes full of pantry items, meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other items such as diapers, formula, and baby food.  Our weekly distribution day is on Thursdays from 10am – 1pm, and our volunteers routinely distribute food boxes to over 200 families each week.

Additional Services

Additionally, on the 3rd Monday of each month, we are able to distribute additional resources via the the federal programs:  The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAF) and Commodity Senior Food Program (CSFP).

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) purchases a wide arrange of high quality, nutritious food and Saguaro Jane distributes that food to low income households within our community.

Our Thrift Store

Since Saguaro Jane’s is a nonprofit 501C(3) run entirely by volunteers, we rely solely on donations, grants, and the proceeds from our on-site thrift shop. We are always thankful for cash donations, and donations of gently used items for our thrift store. The public is welcome to shop at our low-cost thrift shop to help fulfill their needs on Thursdays from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, our weekly distribution day.

Donations for resale in our self-run thrift shop. Clearing out your closet or decluttering your home? We’d love to take your stuff off your hands.
